FRANK LING

Frank Ling, Chair Emeritus of the Canadian Museum of Nature, was born and raised in Hong Kong. Following his graduation as an architect at the Architectural Association School of Architecture and the Royal Academy of Arts in England in the early 1960’s, he travelled extensively and acquired his international business experience and contacts while living and working in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Brunei, Europe, the United States and Canada. He received his Master of City Planning in Urban Design degree at Harvard University in 1972.

With his diverse professional qualifications, business skills and community experience, he has played an active role in design and construction management, public relations and business investments over the past 4 decades in Canada and the Asia Pacific countries. He has travelled regularly to Hong Kong and China and has been an organizer of various trade missions, accompanied by various mayors of Ottawa.

From 1996 to the early part of 2003, he was appointed by the Canadian Government as Chair of the Board of Trustees, the Canadian Museum of Nature. Utilizing his skills and experience in cultural organization and design, he has also been acting as prime consultant to Canadian companies on various museum and recreational design and fabrication projects overseas.

As well, his past and current community services include being Member of the Board of Governors of Carleton University, Member of the Board of Governors of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, National Chairman and Governor of the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association, Chairman of the Hong Kong Festival ‘92 Ottawa Organizing Committee, Founding Chairman of the National Capital Dragon Boat Race Festival, National Vice President of the Chinese-Canadian National Council, Member of the Ottawa General Hospital Board of Trustees, Community Co-chairman of the Ottawa Heart Institute Fundraising Campaign, Member of the Ontario Advisory Council on Multiculturalism and Citizenship, Member of the Ottawa Citizens’ Panel on Local Governance, Member of the Advisory Council of the Ottawa Economic Development Corporation, Member of the Board of Governors of the Ottawa Community Foundation and Chairman of the Ottawa Police Services Board.

He is a recipient of the Order of Canada, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Diamond and Golden Jubilee Medals, the Canada 125th Anniversary Medal, the Ottawa Board of Commissioners of Police Civilian Commendations, the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Culture Volunteer Service Award, the 1994 Board of Trade Business Person of the Year Bronze Distinction in Canada’s National Capital and the St. Joe’s Women’s Centre Quality of Life Award.
